Aviation Ramp and Maintenance Safety (ARMS)

Course Description

Two areas that often go unrecognized with regards to safety implications are ramp and maintenance tasks. There are a wide variety of maintenance jobs that take place both on and off the flight line. In addition, areas that include baggage handling, servicing, ground movement and many others are also critical in the education of aviation safety. Many of the situations that occur in these areas rarely generate "reportable" accidents and/or incidents. Because of this, these areas do not currently receive nearly as much attention as accidents and/or incidents that occur in a more "visible" area of aviation. Employees in these lines of work are exposed to multiple hazards on the job that include:

  • General industrial threats
  • Hazardous materials
  • Dangers associated with moving aircrafts and/or equipment
  • Extreme noise levels
  • Excessive temperature and humidity fluctuations
  • Uncommon radiation levels

(L/D)max Aviation realizes the importance of protecting employees in the areas of aviation ramp and maintenance tasks. While those assigned to the operations department of their organization have strong knowledge of flying safety regulations, these individuals often are not highly familiar with the occupational safety and health guidelines and regulations that are pertinent to ramp and maintenance safety. Not only do these operations individuals need to have the skills to provide effective safety in these areas, but it is critical that they also have skills to control and prevent hazards occurring on the ramp or in maintenance areas.

Gaining the knowledge of aviation ramp and maintenance safety will not only save organizations money, but prevents avoidable accidents and/or incidents in these areas as well. This course offers a wide variety of benefits and a wealth of knowledge in this area of aviation. Those benefits are further explained below.
