Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAI)

Course Description

(L/D)max Aviation Safety Group prides itself on providing top-level instruction in its Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAI) course because we care about improving aviation safety worldwide. In doing so, the (L/D)max Aviation AAI course is designed to not only improve the investigation process, but to also become a more proactive industry in hopes of finding new ways accidents can be prevented.

This course will provide you with the following:

  • Familiarity with the regulatory requirements for both investigation and reporting. Not only will these be the requirements that are exercised in the United States, but will also cover those of the ICAO Annex 13 as it is the basis for nearly all of the current individual reporting and investigation requirements on an international level.
  • Knowledge of how to comply with the operator's responsibilities as it pertains to preserving evidence accurately and providing effective support to the investigation.
  • Education on what evidence is critical to preserve and how to do so effectively in order not to jeopardize the investigation.
  • Skills that will aid in developing an interim response team that will have the responsibility of gathering and preserving evidence at the scene.
  • Ways to identify hazards at an accident site and how to safeguard yourself from them.

(L/D)max Aviation's AAI course is designed to teach you the process of an aircraft accident investigation from start to finish. Learning all of these steps will maximize the ability to accurately investigate an accident. In educating individuals about the process from the initial actions that need to be taken through the end of the investigation, our course will also provide you with these important benefits:

  • Gain knowledge in ways to investigate each of the specialties, systems, structures, engines, operations, and more. This includes the understanding of when expertise in a specific area is needed and where this help can be obtained.
  • Learn about different facets of aircraft performance and structures. With this knowledge base you will learn how these things are factors in aircraft accidents and how to accurately identify them.
  • Discover the ways that recording devices and simulation have enhanced the process of identifying the root causes of aircraft accidents. It also emphasizes the limitations of these techniques to avoid validating erroneous information.
  • Examine how human error plays a significant role in nearly 85% of aircraft accidents as you develop understanding of both the psychological and physiological impact, the role of the aero-medical investigator, and learn critical information about Human Factors and its role in aircraft accidents.
  • Receive education of and training in the use of both chemical and digital photography systems as you learn about the critical role they play in an investigation.

Significant in becoming effective, accurate investigators is gaining hands-on experience. At (L/D)max Aviation we believe that this is highly effective. Not only will you have an opportunity to review a number of accident reports, but in this course you will explore actual accident evidence, establish the causes, obtain findings, and formalize an accident report of your own.

Administration

With (L/D)max Aviation, course training will take place over the course of 10 academic days. This is classroom instruction time that includes lectures outlines and notes, up-to-date reference materials for the industry, and a final certificate of completion once all 80 hours have been completed.

Classes begin at 0800 daily and conclude at 1700, including the last day of instruction. Because the last parts of the training include the individual and group investigation efforts, students traveling from significant distances should attempt to delay departure until class concludes. Early departure may prevent students from completing the course requirements.
